June OTC

Jesse Gonzaga | Kennedy HS

OTC was a great experience not just for officers but for memebers as well! Those who attended got to learn how to become better officers but also better leaders. I held a worshop with Alina De Castro about ice breakers where we explained how to conduct them. We even played some of these ice breakers to show how members can have a good time. Overall in each workshop, you learn something that you can take away and be used in the future. Again this was an amazing experience and I enjoyed it.

Operation Gratitude

Diana Nguyen| Birmingham Charter HS

As summer begins, our school’s first service event was Operation Gratitude. It was held on Thursday, June 25 from 9am to 2pm and Friday, June 26 from 9am to 12pm. Operation Gratitude allows volunteers to create care packages, make paracord bracelets, write letters, as well as send personal postcards to our soldiers.

On both days, our members were apart of the assembly line creating care packages for the troops. As we went through the assembly line, each supervisor greeted us with a huge smile as they filled our boxes. Each care package included Girl Scout cookies, dental necessities, medicine, candy, a paracord bracelet, letters, and a

stuffed animal. In total, our club created about 500 care packages in the two day period.

Friday was the day where more people came to the event and on this day, our club decided to make paracord bracelets for the troops. About 75 bracelets were made in total.

After Operation Gratitude ended, the announcer announced that they have reached their goal of 10,000 care packages- 5,000 for each day, and it is an amazing feeling knowing that our club helped them with their goal.
